Overview
Customized Bag Recycling Solutions
As a part of their partnership with the Beyond the Bag Initiative, Meijer came to Max-R looking for a customized solution to collect used recycled bags at their stores nationwide. Working with their team, we designed three different solutions to be rolled out across all stores.
Discovery
- Needed Solution To Recycle Bags
- Various Area Sizes Required Different Bin Proportions
- Needed To Communicate Green Initiative
After the initial consultation and in order to make the goals set in place by Meijer a reality, our ideation team went to work in conceiving the best solution to the pain points addressed.
Concept
In conjunction with Meijer’s Sustainability Coordinator, Max-R’s Engineering and Design team created three different recycling units that fit with their Beyond The Bag Initiative goals.

- Bins with Consistent Graphics and Colors Developed in Three Different Capacities
- Interchangeable door graphics showcasing Beyond the Bag Initiative, permissible plastics
- Engraved Meijer logo with green resin to further promote idea of Green Initiative
Visualization
Our design team crafted 3D renderings with all of the desired customization. It was determined that Meijer would provide their own messaging to be interchangeable on the doors. Once the configurations, graphics, and colors were approved by Meijer, our engineering team drafted a functioning proof for final sign-off.
The Results
They speak for themselves, don’t they? The clean design and interchangeable graphics help Meijer get closer to their Beyond The Bag Initiative goals.
